However, I tend to have splotchy areas after I apply it, what am I doing wrong? – Kelly T., Buffalo, NY Answer: Well Kelly, there are a few key components that assist in a flawless and rich golden tan. First, make sure that you are properly exfoliating in the shower, exfoliating gloves are great for this; second, properly moisturize all areas before application; and thirdly, make sure to shave your legs. By evenly moisturizing, the self tanner will absorb into the skin consistently for an all over glow. If you have extra cash to spare, how about looking into a spray tan or airbrush tan? Salons around the country offer this service with prices ranging from $15-65+. The process is quick and simple, you can choose how dark you want to be, and the results are impeccable. MaryElise FEBRUARY 2005 Question: I'm tired of plucking my eyebrows and shaving my legs every other day, plus there are too many options to choose from! What do you suggest as the best way to remove facial and body hair? – Maggie A., Portland, OR Answer: Maggie, you are right, there are several available options to remove hair. They range in price, pain, and time to complete. Whether you want to spruce up those eyebrows, stash that mustache, or eliminate leg hair forever, have a look at the "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" editorial, problem solved! Note: Results are often dependent on the person, as the rate of hair growth varies for everyone. To numb skin before tweezing or waxing, hold an ice cube to the given area for about 30 seconds, or apply a pre-tweeze/wax solution to the area. MaryElise DECEMBER 2004 Question: Due to years of acne troubles as a teenager, my skin has these unsightly scars that I just want to go away! Even when I use make-up, the scars still show through. What should I use to help get rid of these unattractive marks? – Scarred in Seattle Answer: While there's no 'magic' product that will make those scars disappear, there are some great products that will help diminish the redness and definition of these scars. Mederma, which retails for $26.99 at drugstores, is the #1 most recommended product for scars. It requires liberal use, but gives great results. And don't let the price tag hinder your purchase, you can try the product, and if not fully satisfied, receive a full refund. Mederma is also great for the dreaded stretch mark dilemma, and scars resulting from surgery or injury. MaryElise AUGUST 2004 Question: As I've seen on your website, I know it's important to exfoliate your body and face. However, what do you suggest I use to exfoliate my face? – Becca S. Chicago, IL Answer: Your facial skin is very delicate and I commend you for asking before you try something that may be too abrasive for your face! Most any beauty stores and drugstores sell gloves that you can wear in the shower or while simply washing your face, which are meant for exfoliation. Dab a quarter size amount of cleanser onto the gloves, and gently rub around your face in small circles. Afterwards, rinse your face with the gloves while repeating the small circular motion once more. Do this no more than twice a week to help slough off dead skin cells while emphasizing your gorgeous glow! MaryElise JUNE 2004 Question: What is a good, affordable, brand of toner for sensitive skin? – Sarah I. Omaha, NE Answer: Each morning and night I make sure to use ‘Sea Breeze” Astringent for Sensitive Skin, it is an excellent toner that truly cleanses and picks up any dirt or impurities left behind after cleansing. It is a rich turquoise color and sells for under $5.00 at your local drugstore. MaryElise |
